Don't Go Hungry, a Community Food Pantry.

A Trinity Presbyterian Church mission that grew from a 2019 summer pilot into a weekly Saturday food program, now serving 1600 to 1800 people with hamper delivery and fresh produce partnerships. The Journey Society project added social media videos, policy briefs, and databases for managing clients, donations, and vendors so volunteers can focus on neighbours feeding neighbours.

Don't Go Hungry

Don't Go Hungry is a food support program out of Trinity Presbyterian Church, serving neighbours in New Westminster and Burnaby. It started in 2019 as a small summer initiative and grew quickly. Working families. People who couldn't make it to other programs. And then COVID hit and everything scaled up further.

Today the program supports 1,600 to 1,800 people every Saturday. There's hamper delivery for neighbours who can't travel, and seasonal fresh produce coming out of community gardens and local farm partnerships. It runs on volunteers and it runs on trust.

The JS Project

Journey Society came in on two fronts: storytelling and systems. The storytelling side meant social media video production to amplify what the program was already doing and give people a reason to show up and get involved. The systems side meant building the infrastructure that volunteers actually needed so they could stop managing chaos and start managing a program.

A Low Barrier Approach

Most programs this size are running on spreadsheets held together with goodwill. We built practical databases to handle clients, donations, and vendor relationships so that information lives somewhere reliable and the people running Saturday mornings can focus on neighbours, not logistics. Policy briefs went alongside that to clarify how the program operates and how its partnerships work, which matters when you're that embedded in a community.

Project Status

The program is active and growing. The infrastructure Journey Society built is designed to scale with it.
